"What's in the Freezer?"
John Curgenven |
As
winter draws in, wildlife often comes closer to a building in search of
food, especially if a nearby feeder is regularly topped up.

"Prebends Bridge"
Denis
Rigg |
Prebends Bridge in Durham was designed by George Nicholson and built
from 1772 to 1778. It replaced a temporary bridge built after the
footbridge, built in 1574, was swept away during a flood in 1771.
Forming part of the estate of Durham Cathedral, the bridge is a Grade 1
listed building and is situated below the Watergate at the end of South
Bailey (with which it is in concurrence), just after St Cuthbert's
Society.
Although the bridge is wide enough for vehicles, it is mainly used as a
footbridge as it only leads to the Riverside paths and up to a closed
road barrier to South Bailey. The bridge was restored from 1955 to 1956.

"The Gate"
Panduka de Silva |
Jaipur
is the largest city of the state of Rajasthan in Northern India; a pre
modern city with a rich cultural heritage and with the men and women
often dressed in colorful costume…. a widespread means of transport is
the ‘two wheelers’ assumed for many an errand.
The evening's rays of light formed an interesting shadow…. the old gent
on his bicycle with his long drawn-out shadow made an interesting
capture…

Image of the Month for August is Mount Etna in Sicily. Shot from a
coach travelling at 60mph, it emphasises the need for a photographer to

"Street Walker"
Colin Howard |
"Every
photographer at some point takes photographs of buildings, places and
people in our towns and cities. But for the dedicated street
photographer, a more serious, in depth approach becomes almost an
obsession."

April 2015 -
"Stemming the Tide"
Philip
Pound |
The
Thames Barrier is located downstream of central London. Operational
since 1982, its purpose is to prevent the floodplain of all but the
easternmost boroughs of Greater London from being flooded by
exceptionally high tides and storm surges moving up from the North Sea.
When needed, it is closed (raised) during high tide; at low tide it can
be opened to restore the river's flow towards the sea.

"Eilean Donan Castle"
Adam Cochrane |
As one of the most iconic images of Scotland, Eilean Donan is
recognised all around the world.
Situated on an island at the point where three great sea lochs meet,
and surrounded by some majestic scenery, it is little wonder
that the castle is now one of the most visited and important
attractions in the Scottish highlands.

February 2015 -
"Telford Suspension Bridge"
by Ron Sutton |
Traffic
across the strait and Anglesey increased in the early 19th century
after the Act of Union of 1800, when Ireland joined the United Kingdom.
Travellers to the ferry port of Holyhead, where ships left for Ireland,
had to make the dangerous crossing after a long and arduous journey
from London.
Soon plans were drawn up by Thomas Telford for ambitious improvements
to the route from London to Holyhead, including a bridge over the Menai.

January 2015 -
"Frozen Fields"
by John Curgenven |
Under
clear frosty nights in winter, soft ice crystals might form on
vegetation or any object that has been chilled below freezing point by
radiation cooling. This deposit of ice crystals is known as hoar frost
and may sometimes be so thick that it might look like snow.
On this occasion the day's sunshine failed to melt the frost.
